HPC Landlord Liaison for Rutland County

The Homeless Prevention Center (HPC) seeks a full-time Landlord Liaison. The ideal candidate should be an outgoing and motivated self-starter; possess a solid understanding of Rutland County and housing issues; demonstrate exceptional communication skills and attention to detail; be straightforward and ethical in their dealings with all types of people; and enjoy the arts of relationship-building and negotiation.

This person will help connect people that have rental barriers, or experienced homelessness, to landlords willing to participate in the various supportive programs offered by HPC. The Liaison works closely with our dedicated case managers and maintains neutrality to support the interests of both the client and landlord.


Principal Duties:

  • Connect with local landlords and property managers to build and maintain positive working relationships

  • Articulate HPC’s programs, services and incentives to prospective landlords and partners

  • Identify new rental units and landlords willing to participate

  • Assist with rental applications one-on-one or in workshops as needed

  • Provide housing search assistance as needed

  • Provide technical assistance to landlords who contact HPC with questions, concerns or rental opportunities

  • Provide technical assistance at rental lease-ups as needed

  • Mediate between tenant and landlord to prevent eviction (if appropriate)

  • Check back with landlords at intervals to determine if a tenancy is going well

  • Occasionally provide technical assistance to an inter-agency team to support the best possible outcomes for a family or individual


Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain professional case notes on client and landlord interactions

  • Track submission and status of rental applications

  • Track tenant rental stability at 12-months

  • Maintain time and mileage records

  • Some light data entry (training provided by employer)

  • Assist in development of educational or awareness information

  • Access other training on an as-needed basis

  • Assist co-workers and Management



  • At least one year direct experience working in property management, homeless services, affordable housing or similar human/community services.

  • Must be detail-oriented and able to keep accurate notes and records.

  • This position requires a person to be non-judgmental and compassionate and to communicate and work effectively with people from different walks of life.

  • The Landlord Liaison will have - or quickly develop - a knowledge of housing and resources in Rutland County.

  • This person will effectively communicate the goal of the Homeless Prevention Center and be an advocate for the client and the community, while reflecting our mission, vision and values:

Terms of Employment: The Landlord Liaison is a full-time (32 to 40 hours per week) position with benefits offered by HPC, including paid vacation, paid sick time, paid holidays and a voluntary SIMPLE IRA plan. The position requires driving of a personal vehicle which is eligible for mileage reimbursement at the prevailing rate. This individual will be hired and supervised by the Executive Director, and be subject to an initial six-month probationary period.

The employee will be expected to maintain confidentiality related to client matters.

Salary: $39,520 - $41,600 per year
